San Diego, stay away from those bums

Bum row, Downtown SD

Bum row, Downtown SD

Apparently there is a new potential swine flu breakout among homeless people around Downtown San Diego.  Since these bums tend to flock to the same area, and survive by sharing items and grouping together, it is feared that the swine flu will spread quicker.  You all have seen as you’re driving past the post office, that they all seem to set up camp around there.  Perhaps avoid that block especially.  If you feel like walking down to the Gaslamp district or just anywhere in Downtown, walk the extra block, or two, out of the way, to avoid being exposed.  I’m not saying homeless people are disease infested vigilantes that should be avoided at all costs; just telling you to take your precautions, it is just more likely for the swine flu to spread more quickly amongst them since there is a higher concentration of them in one area.

The city is expected to get 28,000 doses of vaccine next week.  The homeless are not on the priority list.  Perhaps you can blame the city for the above perception that bums are disease infested beings.  They are people too, and if disease can spread quicker through them, why not vaccinate them?  So many people walk the streets of Downtown San Diego, or any part of San Diego with high concentrations of bums everyday.  It is not their fault that there is danger of the swine flu out-breaking amongst them, therefore meaning you have to go out of your way a few blocks to make sure you aren’t exposed.  All it takes is for one or two individuals to get sick and the rest are in danger.  There could be a huge wipeout with the breakout, due to most of these homeless being sick already and having weak immune systems.

If the homeless are not vaccinated, it could not just become a threat amongst themselves, it could become a huge public health threat; and it wouldn’t be a cheap one either.  Until the city can do something about it though, it is best to try and avoid highly concentrated areas of homeless people; all do respect to them.

McDonald’s Fillet-o-Fish: What’s in it?

McDonald's fillet-o-fish

McDonald's fillet-o-fish

McDonald’s is known to not be the most healthy choice of place to eat, correct?  And there’s always rumors about where their meat comes from, or the quality of it.  Today’s focus is on the Fillet-o-Fish, or Fish Fillet, as people usually call it.  One Fish Fillet will be about 380 calories, with 640 mg of sodium.  As of right now we can say McDonald’s does use real fish in their fillet-o-fish.

Hoki fish

Hoki fish

But do you know where the fish they use for the fish fillets come from?  According to Wikipedia “The Filet-O-Fish contains a battered fish patty made mostly from Alaskan pollock and/or hoki.”  Recently, McDonald’s purchased a large order of a type of hoki blackfish that isfound off of New Zealand, in pitch black waters half a mile below the surface.  The fish is ugly, and wouldn’t look appetizing, and aside from that may be unsustainable; meaning it’s being over-fished and could become endangered.  So if this means a shortage of hoki, does that mean a shortage of the filet-o-fish, or will they find other, probably more gross, substitutes for their battered fish patties?  Either way, I’ll pass.

The First Tweet From Space

September 20, 2009 Leave a comment

The first words man spoke on the moon were  by Neil Armstrong: “That’s one big step for mankind.”

May 12th, 2009, the first tweet from space was from  NASA Astronaut Michael J. Massimino, or @Astro_Mike, and it read “From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”

Of course  this tweet came to my attention upon watching SNL, when they were doing their news story skit, and they pointed out that man has come a long way from “That’s one big step for mankind” to “Launch was awesome!”.  What awe-inspiring words.

Massimino now has over 235,000 followers on Twitter, and is the best publicity NASA has gotten in a long time.

What’s next? The first facebook status from space? Or did I miss that one too? How about the first tweet within a volcano?  How many people that can recite this tweet, actually know why he was in space to begin with?  Socety is so easily amused and awe-stricken.

10 Ridiculously Amazing Projects of Dubai

September 9, 2009 2 comments
Have you ever heard about how much money Dubai has, and how it not only has some crazy buildings and architecture? Even crazier have you seen plans for future projects of Dubai?  Here are some newer and older plans that are just too ridiculously amazing, you never would have dreamed of seeing images such as theses become reality.

10) 0-14 TOWER
-“This new tower, 0-14, was designed by Reiser + Umemoto RUR Architecture P.C. and developer Shahab Lutfi. The building was designed for Dubai’s Business Bay and features 22 floors covered in a double skin facade. That is, outermost skin is constructed from 40c, thick perforated concrete. The one meter space between the skins creates a chimney effect, cooling the building.”

8 ) THE OPUS
-“The Opus will appear to hover from the ground. Constructed of three separate towers the building will appear as a singular unified whole, with a distinctive void. The interiors of which will be clad with a fully engineered curved glass curtain wall to allow for eye-catching views into the void. Reflexive fretting patterns in the form of pixilated striations will be applied onto the glass facade to provide a degree of reflectivity and materiality to the cube while assisting in the reduction of solar gains inside the building. Within the Opus there will be a retail podium across the ground, first and second floor. The uppermost floor will feature a tranquility zone, a beach deck with a reflective pool and shaded roof terrace a media zone and a gym. The building boasts an AAA-class rating and has 87 per cent space efficiency.”

4) THE CLOUD
“The Cloud is a speculative design for a resort city elevated 300 metres in the air above Dubai and is just supported on slanting legs resembling rain. It is designed by Nadim Karam, a Lebanese architect. It is a horizontal presence on an elevated platform, an antithesis to the sum of skyscrapers spreading over the entire region. This looks scary.”

Kinky = Faithful

September 9, 2009 Leave a comment
Keep her happy in bed.

Keep her happy in bed.

Most guys like their girls to be a little kinky in bed (or a lot), or to at least be every now and then.  At least changing it up from the ol’ missionary position.  Well from a girl being kinky with you, can come some good news, fellows.  Studies have shown that the kinkier a girl is in bed with you, the more faithful she is likely to be with you.  Kinky doesn’t mean slut or nympho.  If a girl is willing to get kinky in bed with you, it means that she feels comfortable enough with you to do different kinds of things.  And if a girl feels really comfortable with you, it means she likes you, and is well, comfortable just being with you.  She is less likely to go hook up with some other guy(s).

If you ever come across a “starfish” gentleman, be concerned.  Don’t know what a “starfish” is?  Basically it’s a girl who just lays there on her back, doing nothing, legs and arms spread open.  Boring for you, and if she’s not willing to even budge, you should probably bet she IS willing to go hook up with other guys.  That or she’s just really dull.  And what fun is that to keep around anyways.  Now this doesn’t mean look for your girl to be handcuffing you to the bed and pulling out a whip kind of kinky, although I suppose that would count, but if she’s trying more than the standard two positions, and is willing to exchange oral sex as well…yea, she’s comfortable with you.  Another good sign, is if she wears lingerie for you or sends you pictures of her wearing lingerie.  Most girls don’t just send you lingerie pictures unless they feel comfortable and safe enough with you to do so.  Especially with the way things spread on the internet these days, it’s a huge security risk.  So keep things interesting in the bedroom and keep her happy in bed, and if she’s keeping things interesting in the bedroom, then you have nothing to worry about.

Note: Never make a determination after the first time you have sex with an individual; you can’t determine a comfort level after the first time.

What else do these symbols mean?

August 30, 2009 Leave a comment

So there are symbols that we may all have seen before but do not know the original meaning behind them, or another form of meaning to them.  Here are 5 of them you probably have their original meaning mistaken for, or don’t know what else they could mean:

1) The Peace Sign: peace sign
Now: We take this symbol to be a symbol of peace.
Original: Originally the “peace” sign was designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom as a combination of the semaphore letters N and D, for Nuclear Disarmament.  There have also been claims that the symbol has an older, anti-christian association to it, as a “symbol of death”, as an inverted crucifix, or “Nero cross”.

2) The Swastika: swastika
Now: We associate this symbol nowadays with Nazism, especially in the Western world.
Original: The swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.

3) The Star of Davidstarofdavid
Now: We associate this symbol as a Jewish symbol; it is supposed to represent that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: North, South, East, West, Up and Down.
Also: The Nazi’s used the Star of David to “brand” Jews.  Instead of a sign that was supposed to symbolize Jewish faith, it became a method of identifying the Nazi’s enemy during the Holocaust.  Jews were forced to wear the symbol.

4) The Pentagrampentagram
Now: Don’t know what a pentagram is? The picture should have given it away; it’s a star.  So we use the star to decorate and draw all over our notebooks, or think of the stars in space in accordance to this symbol.
Original: Well the “star”, is actually called a pentagram, meaning “five-lined”.  The pentagram was used symbolically in ancient Greece. Today it is a symbol of faith to the Wiccans (also known as witches), as the cross is used by Christians, and the Star of David to Jews.  With two points up, Satanists use it as a sign of religious rebellion, and the other three points down symbolizes a rejection of the Holy Trinity.  Christians however used the symbol to represent the 5 wounds of Jesus Christ.

5) The Nautical Starnauticalstar
a) Now: A trend -You will see a lot of people nowadays sportin’ the symbol of the nautical star, especially the stereotypical “bros” and “bro-hoes”.  It is a popular tattoo to get as well.
Original: In prison if you were tattooed with a nautical star it meant that you were gay, and in prison this would give others inmates reason to give you trouble and “take advantage” of you, if you know what I mean.
b) Also informally signifies membership in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.  It recalls both the star of the U.S. flag, as well as a compass rose found on old nautical charts.
